A school screening and a full eye exam are not the same appointment, and passing one does not stand in for the other.
A school vision screening is designed to be fast and to be run on a lot of children in a short time. It generally checks distance acuity from a chart. That is a real check and it catches some things, but it is not built to look at how the eyes focus up close, how well they aim and work as a pair, or what the inside of the eye looks like — which is most of what a comprehensive children's exam covers.
Children also do not reliably report vision trouble, because whatever they see is simply what seeing has always looked like to them. They compare nothing. That is the practical argument for an exam on a schedule rather than an exam prompted by a complaint. If a teacher, a pediatrician or you have noticed something specific, say what it is when you book so the practice knows what the visit is really about.
